GIRAFFES
Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) are African even-toed ungulate mammals. They are the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant. The name of the species refers to its camel-like appearance and the color of the patches on the fur. The main distinguishable features are its horn like ossicones, distinctive coat pattern, extremely long neck and legs. They stand from between 5 meters and 6 meters (16 feet-20 feet) tall. Their average weight is 1,600 kg (3,500 lb) for males and 830 kg (1,800 lb) for females. It is classified under the family Giraffidae, along with its closest extant relative, the okapi. The nine subspecies are distinguished by their coat patterns.
